Disruption to Campus card payments during upgrade

The University is making major improvements to the cashless payment system in the coming days.  Once the upgrade is complete it will be much easier to manage your Campus card account with one online balance to pay for printing, photocopying, Library fines and your lunch!

Whilst work is carried out to make these improvements the Campus card payment system will be unavailable.

From Wednesday 20 July at 17:00 until 17:00 on Monday 1 August it will not be possible to:

  • Top-up online via the Campus card portal
  • Top-up using cash at the kiosk in the Library
  • Make any payments using your Campus card
  • Pay Library fines online via the Campus card portal

If you have any problems printing or photocopying during the upgrade please go to the IT help desk on the 1st floor of the Library.

It will still be possible to pay Library fines using cash or debit/credit cards in person at the Ground floor Information Desk or by calling 0118 378 8770 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Please email campuscard@reading.ac.uk with any questions.

We’ve gone red!

Our website has been transformed to a Reading red and now matches the rest of the University. There will be further changes later on in the summer when Study Advice and Maths Support are added to our website, so you can find all the study support information you need in one place.

Our subject guides have also been updated following student feedback so that they should be easier to use. They now include information about online reading lists as well as finding books, journal articles, e-resources and websites relevant to your subject.

We hope you like these changes, you can get in touch with us on Twitter if you have any feedback.

Slop bin on tour: Used it yet?

Man pouring drink slops into slop-bin and putting plastic bottle in blue recycing binLook out for our ‘roving slop bin’, making an appearance on various Library floors this month. It’s on test from University Estates & Facilities. Is this the solution to the problem of where to dispose of unfinished drinks before discarding the container? Use it and we might get more bins!

As you may already have seen, Library recycling is rubbish at exam time! Recycling drops during revision time when we may feel stressed. However, one contaminated cup or food container in a recycling bin means the recycling company won’t take it.

Please help us buck the trend and put used cups in a grey landfill bin after slopping out. Empty plastic bottles can go in blue recycling bins.

Library and campus study space for revision

Rows of small tables and chairs set out for examsRevising?

Did you know you could use alternative University revision study space provided elsewhere on campus this term. However, the Library is always a popular study choice and is reserved for Campus/Library Card holders overnight and weekends until the end of exams/term. Have your card handy to prove you are entitled to come in, or come back after taking a break. This year we’re also asking you to help us ensure there is no unfair study desk-hogging!

Hope you are still following our Study Advisers’ advice on planning your revision! All the very best of luck in your exams from the Library! Don’t forget to settle your Library account before you go … or maybe open another!

Library heating on

Man using a loud hailerThe Library building is now heating up! This morning a failed valve caused a fault with the main heating system. However, thanks to Estates and Facilties Management, we’re now switched over to the back-up system.  It may take a short while before the whole building reaches a comfortable temperature since it has been off for 11 days over the University’s Christmas Closure.

For more on challenges and opportunities for the Library’s heating and ventilation system, see our previous blog.
