Student Services closing times over Summer

Summer is nearly here! During this time, some of our Student Services will be closing or reducing their hours. However, don’t worry! In this blog, we will cover the opening times for our services over Summer, and other places to go if you need some extra support over the break.

Student Services Over Summer:

  • CAREERS

Closed: Bank holidays and university closure days, as well as closed 23rd and 30th June for staff training.

  • Call0118 378 6300 in the case of an emergency on campus. The University Security Team will be able to assist you in contacting the emergency services if necessary.

  • Call 111 (NHS) or your GP If you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do. Find out more.
  • Call 101 (Police) or Report crimes online if it is not an emergency. Find out more.
  • Visit your local Accident & Emergency departmentwalk-in centre, minor injuries unit or urgent care centre.
  • Visit or call your local GP.
  • Talk to your local pharmacist.
  • Call 116 123 to contact the Samaritans for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whatever you’re going through, a Samaritan will face it with you.
  • Call 0800 129 9999 to contact the NHS Mental Health Crisis Team. If you need urgent help, but it’s not an emergency.
  • Call or text 0800 068 4141 to contact PAPYRUS, the national UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide. The service is staffed by trained mental health professionals.
  • Text “SHOUT” to 85258 to contact the Shout Crisis Text Line.
  • Contact Your doctor/GP practice. If you are registered with the University Medical Group in Northcourt Avenue, contact: 0118 987 4551. Otherwise, please contact the doctor that you are registered with.

Tips for feeling safe on campus

  • Download and use the MyWay app
  • Add security contacts to your phone (contacts above)
  • Use the Chaperon service so security can make sure you are safe
  • Use the main paths on campus all of these are well lit and are covered by CCTV

Support over Summer

  • Student Space is open throughout Summer and has great resources and helplines.
  • Urgent concerns about your mental health? Call the Berkshire NHS Crisis number; they are available 24/7.
  • If you are feeling suicidal or desperate to talk to someone, you can call the Samaritans for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 116 123.
  • PAPYRUS is the national UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide and offers a telephone and text service on 0800 068 4141. The service is staffed by trained mental health professionals from 09:00 – 00:00.
  • Your doctor/GP practice. If you are registered with the University Medical practice in Northcourt Avenue, the number is: 0118 987 4551. Otherwise, please contact the doctor with whom you are registered.
  • Non-urgent NHS medical help/advice: 111.
  • Emergency services:999.
  • University Security Team emergency number: 0118 378 6300.
