Fairtrade Fortnight

Get involved in Fairtrade Fortnight: 24 Feb – 8 March

Fair trade is a simple way to make a difference to the lives of the people who grow and make the things we love to buy – including chocolate, jewellery, clothes and homeware. Both the University and town of Reading support fair trade and together organise Fairtrade Fortnight, a series of events held between 24 February and 8 March, on campus and the surrounding area.

If you are a food-lover, don’t miss Shrove Tuesday pancakes and chocolate tasting on and around campus; a vegan Thali takeover at the Global Café; and coffee tasting in Twyford. If arts and craft are more your thing, there are a number of exhibitions and stalls to pick up groceries and unusual gifts.

Key events include ‘Fairtrade Public Lecture’ by the CEO of CafeDirect, John Steele, on 4 March at 18.15 (booking details); ‘Three Wise Women – A Palestinian Celebration’ to celebrate International Women’s Day on 6 March at 1930 (booking details); and ‘Climate Emergency – Financing the Transition to Sustainability’ by economist John Christensen, on 11 March at 19.30 (booking details).
