Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by the tragic incident on Saturday evening. Here at Reading we want to assure students that we will stand together in unity and we will not allow violence or hatred to break us apart. The Vice-Chancellor has asked for our flags to be at half-mast this week to show our respect to those who lost their lives, including the late James Furlong, a mentor in the Institute of Education.
We would like to take this time to show you the support networks here at Reading. The Student Welfare team are here to help you with any concerns you may have. The Counselling & Wellbeing team consist of a variety of multidisciplinary professionals for any help you may require – look at our helpful Trauma document for more information. In addition, anyone can call 116 123 to speak to the Samaritans, or this helpline.
Please take this time to reflect on the bravery of the police, public and medics on Saturday, whose actions undoubtedly saved lives.
We will stand united.
