Alcohol use is common within the university environment. A UK survey conducted by the UK National Union for Students found 82% of participants believed drinking was a part of the university culture. Even though there have been studies about alcohol use amongst university students, in general, there have been little to no studies carried out in the University of Reading.
In addition to this, the COVID-19 pandemic affected many parts of academic life, and the impact on students is starting to be discovered. The use of alcohol may have had an impact on some students during this time, and this has not been explored.
To learn more about these topics, we would like to invite you to participate in our survey on Alcohol use amongst University of Reading undergraduates during the COVID-19 pandemic to share your experiences of alcohol at university. The survey is open to all undergraduate students, whether you drink alcohol or not. The survey forms part of Tejiri Edumijeke’s MPharm final year research project in the School of Pharmacy. The information you share with us will also help our range of student support services better support all our students, now and in the future.
At the end of the survey, you will be able to audit your own drinking to work out a score. This will give you the opportunity to reflect on your own drinking, as well as details on how to get support, either for yourself or for a friend.
You can access the survey directly via this link. All responses are strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside the research team.
If you have any concerns or would like to find out more advice on drinking responsibly, visit our alcohol support webpages. Remember too that our Student Welfare Team is here to support you.
