Community Festival

Grab your technicoloured dreamcoats, and join Festival Sinfonia, Festival Voices, and for the first time ever, Universal Voices, to put on a large scale concert production of a musical.
We are delighted to announce that we will be performing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in March 2020, at the University of Reading Great Hall.
Performers will work together in intensive rehearsals with professional vocal, movement, and orchestral tutors – take a look at our gallery of photographs from 2019 to see what our cast and orchestra got up to. All performers are required to register to take part. The Community Festival is free for Music at Reading members, with a small fee for non-members; and all performers are required to buy a Music at Reading t-shirt for the performance.

Soloist Auditions and Rehearsals:
Auditions have now taken place; singers should join Festival Voices to take part in the performance.
Soloists will be given their music in read through rehearsals in December, to learn their parts over the Christmas vacation. Rehearsals will take place on Monday evenings, with a rotating timetable of songs in each. Attendance of all scheduled rehearsals is required, and the timetable can be downloaded from the Member Zone.
Festival Sinfonia:
Festival Sinfonia learn the music over the course of two Friday evening rehearsals, before joining together with Festival Voices for weekend rehearsals. Attendance of all rehearsals is required.

Festival Voices:
Festival Voices learn the music over the course of two Saturday rehearsals – with the option of joining Academic Voices on a Thursday evening throughout the Spring term to become part of the ‘Brothers Ensemble’ to learn some additional material for the show.
- Thursday 16 January – Academic Voices (Brothers Ensemble) Rehearsal 1; rehearsals every Thursday until the performance.
- Saturday 15 February – Festival Sinfonia and Festival Voices Act 1
- Saturday 29 February – Festival Sinfonia and Festival Voices Act 2

Children’s Choir Rehearsals:
For the first time, we are welcoming children to take part in the Community Festival. Rehearsals will usually take place during Universal Voices rehearsals after school on a Thursday, and there is no cost for children to join.
