UoR Music regularly collaborates with the following Reading University Music societies:

  • RUMS – Reading University Music Society
  • Reading Singer-Songwriter Society

In conjunction, with these thriving music societies, we will be hosting multiple events throughout the academic year. To find out more about these societies please read on!

Band Society

Band Soc is the go-to society for all contemporary music enthusiasts. Whether you want to join or start a band, they’ve got you covered. Band Soc members perform at the popular monthly Jam Factory Gigs at the Dairy and play a key role in the UoR LIVE programme, bringing live music to campus. If you’re passionate about music and want to connect with like-minded people, Band Soc is the place to be!

Rock Society

Rock Soc is a social society with a vibrant membership both on campus and in town. Members enjoy a wide range of alternative music, including classic rock, metal, goth, punk, industrial/EBM, grunge, pop punk, indie and lots more. They host a range of socials throughout the year. Venues include Purple Turtle, Sub89, Facebar, and many more. We also collaborate with UoR Music to get our rock society members displaying their talents in Live Music shows.

Singer-Songwriters Society

RUSS create opportunities to share your love for music and train your creative side, anything from open mics to jam sessions and more! They will be offering in-person socials as well as song-writing sessions for everyone to enjoy – it doesn’t matter if you don’t play any instruments or haven’t written a song before, we’re all here to have fun.
