This Cuphea llaveacultivar is named for the mouse ear like upper petals of the flowers. Cuphea are sometime known as Mexican cigar plants and are members of the Lythraceae.

Our plant is of commercial origin and has grown very rapidly over the summer reaching more than 20 times its original size.
During my last sampling session on Sunday 9th September Justin pointed out a new population of Aphids feeding on Cuphea that had colonised the plant in a matter of days!
