Our annual gingerbread competition of the year was brought to you by Global Buddies & Chill & Chat.
Gingerbread house decorating began in Germany around 1800, becoming more popular after the publishing of the fairy tale story Hansel and Gretel. As the years went by, it became a tradition in many countries to build and decorate a gingerbread house during the Christmas period as festive fun. Some countries host national gingerbread competitions, too, as well as conventions! We cannot compete on that level, but we create our own community of fun!
Our 2021 gingerbread competition will be the same as last year. For those in self-catered or private accommodation, we provided a kit so that they could bake their own gingerbread house. For those in catered accommodation, who have limited access to kitchen facilities, we provided a pre-made kit. From the day you pick up your gingerbread kits, you can start your creation. Though hurry, there is limited kit available, and it will be a first come first serve basis.
Once all the fabulous creations are made, individuals or teams (up to 5 people) must submit photos or a video of their creation so it can be judged. The deadline to submit: 20th December! Every year we see amazing designs, from traditional gingerbread houses to campus buildings, mini villages, historical scenes, cultural elements, and great monuments. So we cannot see what you will come up with this year! Of course, there will be a prize for the winner(s). The winner(s) will be announced at the virtual event on the 22nd December.
