Opening hours over the summer vacation

Over the summer vacation the opening hours of some of your services and facilities on campus may be changing. However, do not worry! You will still be able to access the help and support you need during this time. Below, we have provided a summary of the summer opening hours of our services so know how to access the support you need.

Support Centres: 

‘Ask us a Question’ on the RISIS portal is the main method for contacting support centres with non-urgent queries. Over the summer vacation period, you will be able to use the ‘Ask us a Question’ service. Ask a question is still always available over the summer, any queries received will be fielded to the correct teams, and their responses sent during office hours for each respective team.

Opening times are different for each support centre location. Refer to Essentials for more information.

The Student Financial Support Team: 

Over the summer vacation the Student Financial Support Team will be available for virtual or face to face appointments on Mondays. Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00-12:30

You can book an appointment with the Student Financial Support Team via the online form. Appointments are available in-person or via MS teams.

The University of Reading Careers and Placements team: 

Throughout the summer vacation period the Careers front desk will be open from 09:00-17:00, Monday to Thursday and 9:00-4:30 on Fridays. The Careers team still be available 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday via email (careers@reading.ac.uk) and telephone (0118 3788359).

Students can also book an appointment online with a careers consultant for advice.

Careers information and help sheets can be found on the Careers website. Careers webinar recordings and further materials can be found on Careers 24/7 in Blackboard.

Please note that the Careers service will be unavailable 10 July and 26 August.

Student Services Reception: 

During the summer the Student Services Reception will be open as usual:

Disability Advisory Service (DAS):

As of the 17th June, the reception desk for the disability team will be working at reduced hours. It will be open from 11:00-12:00 & 14:00-15:00 Monday-Friday.

Campus Jobs: 

Campus Jobs will be open as normal throughout the summer (10am until 4pm Monday-Friday) with the exception of any bank holidays and University closure days.

Outside of term time, students are encouraged to book an appointment in advance. Appointments can be made on the Campus Jobs portal, by email (campusjobs@reading.ac.uk), or by phone (0118 378 4499).

University of Reading Library: 

The Library will be changing to vacation opening hours from Saturday 8th June – Sunday 22nd September, where we will be open during the following hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 08:30 – 17:00
  • Saturday & Sunday: Closed

There are some exceptions:

  • Monday 26 August: Closed for Bank Holiday
  • Will be open on Saturday 13 July, Saturday 17 August and Saturday 21 September from 8:30-17:00

The International Student Advisory Team: 

To book an appointment during the summer vacation, please see the Appointments page. You can also contact the team via email 09:00 – 17:00, Monday – Friday.

DTS/ IT Service Desk: 

DTS and the IT Service Desk will be open as usual during the vacation.

You can contact the IT team by email (dts@reading.ac.uk), via the Self Service Portal, and by phone (0118 378 6262), 08:00-18:00 Monday to Friday. You can find more information about the support services available to you via the DTS hub.

The counter in the Library will be open Monday-Friday, 9:00-17:00.

The IT Service Desk/DTS will be unavailable on Monday 26 August.

The Counselling and Wellbeing Team: 

The Counselling and Wellbeing Team will be available throughout the summer, Monday-Friday from 9:00-17:00.

The Student Welfare Team:

The Student Welfare Team’s offices will be open as usual throughout the summer period (Monday – Friday 10:00-16:00). Please contact studentwelfare@reading.ac.uk if are in need of support, or call 0118 378 4777.

Accommodation:

Throughout the summer vacation period the accommodation office will be open Monday – Friday, 08:30- 17:30. You can visit the offices in-person, or contact the accommodation team via phone and email (accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk and 0118 200 5011).

The service will be closed on bank holidays. On University closure days the office will be closed but the accommodation team will still be contactable via phone and email.

Study Advice:

The Study Advice appointment service is available in person and online all year round apart from University Closure days and Bank Holidays. Appointments are available Monday – Friday, 09:00-17:00.You can book an appointment via the library website.

The Study Advice drop-in service will be unavailable during the vacation period, and resume when the autumn term starts in September.

Wardens:

Hall Wardens remain open throughout the summer and are ‘on call duty’ every evening. They are open currently from 9am to 10pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday / Sunday we open 1pm to 10pm.

Over the summer we will be open:

  • Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm – on call (duty) after that until 9am
  • Saturday and Sunday 1pm to 7pm – on call (duty) after that until 9am

Support over the summer vacation

  • NHS Mental Health Crisis Service on 0300 365 2000 or 0300 365 9999 (out of hours 9pm -9am)
  • Call 116 123 to talk to the Samaritans, or email: jo@samaritans.org (for a reply within 24 hours)
  • Text “SHOUT” to 85258 to contact the Shout Crisis Text Line, (24 hr service)
  • Urgent concerns about your mental health? Call the Berkshire NHS Crisis number; they are available 24/7.
  • If you are feeling suicidal or desperate to talk to someone, you can call the Samaritans for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 116 123.
  • PAPYRUS is the national UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide and offers a telephone and text service on 0800 068 4141. The service is staffed by trained mental health professionals 10:00 – 22:00 weekdays and 14:00 – 17:00 at the weekend.
  • Your doctor/GP practice. If you are registered with the University Medical practice in Northcourt Avenue, the number is:0118 987 4551. Otherwise, please contact the doctor with whom you are registered.
  • Non-urgent NHS medical help/advice: 111.
  • Emergency services:999.
  • University Security Team emergency number: 0118 378 6300.

  • For any urgent Halls matters, please ring the Halls hotline on 0800 029 1984 who are still operating a 24/7 service.
