Chemistry Research Colloquium – Dr Lorna Dougan “Pulling proteins: using single molecule force spectroscopy to probe mechanical stability in a range of biological systems”

On Monday 9th November, the Chemistry Research Colloquium is by Dr Lorna Dougan, University of Leeds.

Her talk, “Pulling proteins: using single molecule force spectroscopy to probe mechanical stability in a range of biological systems”

will be at 3.45pm in Chemistry LTG preceded by refreshments in the Chemistry Foyer at 3.30pm.

ALL WELCOME

BBC South’s “Inside Out” investigative programme features Chemistry and CAF on Monday 2nd November.

Chemistry and CAF will be making a further appearance on Monday 2nd November, on BBC South’s “Inside Out” investigative programme at 7.30pm. This includes the X-ray platform with Chemistry’s, Dr Ann Chippindale making an appearance.

BBC South are investigating a miracle face cream based on vanishingly small amounts of caper extract (3 parts per million in the actual cream).

Professor Laurence Harwood, The Director of CAF, and other members of staff in the Department of Chemistry were also involved in the making of this programme.

Undergraduate Year in Industry placement leads to publication

Karl Hampton, a Part 3 MChem Chemistry with a Year in Industry student, currently on placement at Malvern Instruments in Great Malvern, has published a paper in the Journal of Chromatography A.

It’s great to see work from placement students getting published in the scientific literature. As well as being a fantastic achievement for Karl, engaging undergraduate students with research is one of the University’s Teaching and Learning Enhancement Priorities, and the industrial placements available on our MChem and BSc programmes are just one of the many ways in which the department provides such opportunities.
