A video recording can be anything from the recording of a live lecture, to practical work carried out away from the lecture theatre, to the recording of supplementary support information outside a normal contact session.

Alastair Culham is a lecturer in Botany and teaches the MSc course in plant diversity. In this course, students learn how to identify plants, a process that takes place inside the taught lectures and via demonstrations outside lectures. The demonstrations are recorded during the session and then uploaded for students to view again as an aid for revision. One significant advantage of this technique is that it overcomes plant seasonality issues, since Alastair’s demonstrations of the various plant features are available throughout the whole year.
