Goodbye Microsoft Stream Classic!

Microsoft Stream logo

Microsoft Stream Classic will be closing to users for good at the end of June 2024.

The video service has been replaced by Microsoft “Stream on SharePoint”, which is where we have been saving videos for many months.

What do I need to do?

You do not need to do anything. All videos in Stream Classic will be migrated by DTS to Stream on SharePoint.

Microsoft have provided a migration tool which will help us move the videos currently in Stream Classic to new locations on OneDrive (personal videos) or SharePoint (Team/group).

We will be bulk migrating videos remaining in Stream Classic at the beginning of June. You may wish to delete any old videos you no longer want by the end of May, but this is optional.

How to view the content you have in Stream Classic

Go to https://web.microsoftstream.com and select My Content > Videos menu to view any videos you own. You can choose to delete them rather than have them migrated if you prefer.

How to find your migrated videos

If you have any videos in Stream Classic, these will be moved by DTS during the migration phase to a folder called Stream Migrated Videos, in the updated locations:

Source

Examples

New location

“My content”*

Personal videos, downloads

New folder: OneDrive: Stream Migrated Videos

Teams

Meeting recordings, videos shared within the Team

New folder: Team – General – Files – Stream Migrated Videos

Blackboard

Academic videos  with filename “grp.bb.xxx”

Separate TEL project to migrate these to Yuja

* Videos with no owner (i.e. owner has left) are not be able to be migrated and will instead be saved by DTS to a place we can retrieve them from if required.

What happens after Stream Classic closes on 30 June 2024?

Users will no longer have access to videos via https://web.microsoftstream.com

What happens to links I have to videos in Stream Classic?

Any URLs you have pointing to videos currently in Stream Classic will remain valid for the new location in Stream on SharePoint for one year only. You will need to update them to the link in Stream on SharePoint by Feb 2025.

What to do if you think a video is lost

If you think you have lost a video, then please raise a ticket with the IT Service Desk. Please provide as much detail as possible about the missing video, including who the original owner was, and the name of the video. We will then check our records to see if we can find it.
