The University of Reading is seeking passionate, tech-savvy students to participate in an exciting project focused on enhancing digital accessibility. This role is an opportunity for students, particularly those who use assistive technologies (such as Read Aloud, JAWS, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Pixie, etc), to help shape the University’s digital landscape by documenting their experiences with key University systems. Participation will involve testing various systems (using assistive technologies or simulating similar), contributing feedback, and joining focus groups to voice unique perspectives on accessibility needs.
Encouraging students to apply for this role means empowering them to directly impact the digital accessibility journey at our University. The project aligns with our commitment to inclusivity and draws on feedback from a recent digital accessibility audit, identifying that student voices are essential in our ongoing improvements.
In this flexible, remote role, students can work up to 8 hours (spread across a few weeks) and will participate in initial and concluding focus groups. This opportunity allows students to gain valuable professional skills in user testing, documenting findings, and offering feedback on accessibility, adding both to their CVs and their sense of contribution to an inclusive learning environment.
